Betty Lou McGowan died Wednesday, December 9, 2009. A native of Canton she was a resident of Asheville for 51 years. She was a daughter of the late Roger and Helen Whitmire McKinney.
Mrs. McGowan was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Canton and Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College.
Surviving are her husband Charles McGowan; sons, Grover C. Johnston, Jr. of Greensboro and James A. Johnston (Deena) of Lexington , S C ; daughter, Vivian L. Johnston of Asheville; step children, Patricia, Rita, Martha and Benjamin McGowan; brothers, William McKinney of Biloxi, MS, Sonny McKinney of Brevard, Roger and Brian McKinney of Georgia; four grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Service. Services will be at 2 p.m. in Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall South Congregation, Min. Harry Fair will officiate.
