Mrs. Daugherty, 91 of Black Mountain died Tuesday, December 15, 2009. She was born August 2, 1918 in Swannanoa, a daughter of the late Horace "Shoat" Burgin and Lucy Lytle Dillingham.

A lifelong resident of Swannanoa Valley, she was a faithful member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. She was an LPN and retired in 1983 from the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Daniel Daugherty and brother, Howard Lytle.

She is survived by her son, Craig B. Daugherty and wife, Diane of Charlotte; sister in law, Mary Forney of Black Mountain; nephew, Howard Lytle of Ridgeland, SC; nieces, Claudia Brown and husband, Rod of Louisville, KY and Joyce Lytle of Newport News, VA; special cousins, Hattie Pertiller and husband, Joseph and their sons, Joey and Mitch, George Thompson and wife, Gail, Carrie Rutherford and Margaret Davidson all of Black Mountain; many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Daugherty's life services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Mills Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Hill, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Mills Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, 328 Cragmont Rd. Black Mountain, NC 28711.

The family wishes to send their sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and administration staff of Mountain Kidney and Hypertension Associates, DaVita Swannanoa Dialysis Center and Highland Farms Retirement Community for the care and love provided to our mother and family member.
